Loyalty Day & Prefects/Stewards Investiture Ceremony 2012

The Loyalty Day of the College which is celebrated every year on the 19^th of January was celebrated this year too in a grand scale.

The day began with the hoisting of the flags and the garlanding of the statue of St. Sebastian. Mr. Jude Niroshan giving a brief speech on loyalty emphasized that one shows his loyalty to the school by way of his actions and asked the students to behave properly everywhere.

The Eucharistic Celebration followed with Rev. Fr. Christo Viraj , an old boy of the College being the chief celebrant. Rev Fr. Christo in his sermon urged the students to make use of the superb facilities the College provides to bring out results and fruits of success by which one can show his loyalty  to his almamater. After the sermon the new Prefects’ Board for the year 2012 was sworn in. Master Praveen Salinda Fernando as the Head Prefect and Masters Mithun Yohan Wickramasekara and Keveen De Silva as the two deputy Head Prefects. Rev. Fr. Prasath Niranjan Fernando the Vice Rector along with staff advisors Mrs. Germain Nonis and Mr. Jude Sujeewa Silva will be in charge of the prefects as in the past years.

The statue of St. Sebastian was brought to the quadrangle in procession after the Holy Mass by the new prefects and the blessing from the statue of St. Sebastian was imparted by Very Rev. Fr. Bonnie Fernandopulle, Episcopal Vicar of the Colombo Northern Region and Rector of the College.

After a brief interval the students gathered in the hall for another very special occasion. For the very first time in the history of the College which spans to more than 150 years College Stewards were sworn in from students of Grades 10 and from those who did their O/L s last year. The stewardship was described as the base or foundation in learning to become a prefect of the College. Mr. Rangana Fernando will be the master in charge of the stewards.
