The COLOURS NIGHT 2010 – 2011 was held on Sunday the 06th of November 2011 in the College main hall with former POG and Primary Principal Rev. Bro. Nimal Gurusinghe FSC who did a yeoman service to the field of sports in the College as the chief guest.
Two old boys of the college, world renowned cricketer Mr. Romesh Kaluwitharana, popularly known as “Little Kalu” and COO of Dialog GSM Mr. Supun Weerasinghe were the guests of honour.
It was held to honour and appreciate the hardwork put in by the boys for their respective sports. Merit certificates and colours were awarded for the years 2010 and 2011. Boys who participated in various sporting activities in school were felicitated amidst a large and distinguished gathering.
Rev. Fr. Rector in his welcome address urged the boys to take use of the facilities provided by the College to be good sportsmen who will make the school proud.
Mr. Romesh Kaluwitharana, in his address admitted that he his ever grateful to St. Sebastian’s College for the guidance he received in his formative days as a cricketer. And he also cautioned the parents not to get involved in the sports activities of the child but to assist him to make right decisions.
Rev. Bro. Nimal Gurusinghe FSC, the chief guest, stressed the importance of discipline in sports. He said that without discipline the sportsman will gradually fade away. He also urged the students not to think that they are doing a service to school by engaging in sporting activities, since the school is providing students with all the guidance and facilities that they need and without them nothing will be possible.
Master. Sanitha De Mel, cricket captain for the year 2010-2011 was adjudged the best sportsman for being victorious in the annual Big Match after a long wait of 45 years.
Mr. Gihan Fernando, president of 94 batch of the College and his team, together with Rev. Fr. Bonnie Fernandopulle (Rector/POG) and the sports coordinator Mr. Jayashantha Fernando worked hard to make this event a colourful and successful one.
We hope that those boys who won colours and merits will work hard to achieve more higher goals in the future and one day become disciplined sportsman who will bring honour and glory to our motherland. We wish all of them good luck.
