DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

A/L Building
22 million Rupees were estimated for this four-storey building, which was funded by Caritas Hungery to house 100 tsunami affected children in a hostel on the third floor of the building. This new A/L building was built replacing the old A/L building. It provides three laboratories, one lecture theatre for 150, 18 class rooms and a hostel with two dormitories. Some pictures show when it was under construction.

Primary Building

The new three-storey building was built at the primary school premises. It provides 20 new classrooms, a principal’s office and two staff rooms and a computer room. The purpose of constructing this new building is to reduce the number of students per class to 35-37 in order to make teaching and learning effective and to provide spacious and well-equipped classrooms.

We record with thanks the donations made towards this cause by the Old Boys’ Union of England with Rs. 500,000.00, 88’ Batch with Rs. 200,000.00, 70’s Circle with chairs and desks for one classroom and Mr. Susantha Perera with not less than Rs. 200,000.00 collected from different sources.

Some pictures show when it was under construction.

Swimming Pool Project

The newest addition to St. Sebastian’s College is a new swimming pool which was declared open by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Dr. Marius Peiris, the Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo, also an old boy of St. Sebastian’s College. The happy event took place on the 30th of December 2006; four days after the island commemorated the 2nd anniversary of the Tsunami disaster. AFLAC International, Founded and headed by Mr. Elmo Jayawardana and assisted by Mr. Dayantha De Mel, has come forward to build this swimming pool at college premises. This swimming pool is thus called ‘AFLAC International Pool’. This is a joint project by AFLAC Int. and St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa. The purpose of building this pool is to help less fortunate children of Moratuwa learn swimming and get off the fear water. The contract between AFLAC Int. and St. Sebastian’s College will be valid for 10 years, after which it will be evaluated and rescheduled.
